The Dutch mezzo soprano Leonore van Sloten studied singing at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Udo Reinemann and Pierre Mak. She also studied Art History at the University of Amsterdam. After finishing her studies Leonore was coached by mezzo soprano Marion van den Akker. Leonore participated in master classes of prestigious singers and accompanists like Jard van Nes, Françoise Pollet, Noëlle Barker, Julius Drake, Rudolf Jansen.
Oratorio
Leonore is often guest soloist with choirs and ensembles for pieces like Requiem, Vespers and Krönungsmesse by Mozart, the Weihnachtsoratorium, the Mattheüs Passion by Bach, Le Roi David by Honegger, La Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini, Stabat Mater by Pergolesi and Stabat Mater by Dvorak. In 2005 she debuted in the big hall of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam as soloist in the Missa Brevis of Zoltán Kodály.
Lied
A special interest of Leonore lies in the repertoire of the German Lied and the French mélodie. Together with pianist Mignon Gotzsch she founded Duo Thaleia, a duo that focuses on the broad spectrum within this genre of chamber music. In 2008 Leonore and Mignon where accepted for the soloist group of the Dutch organisation Vrienden van het Lied, for which they now perform regularly in recitals all over the country. With lutist Arjen Verhage, Leonore shares the love for lute songs by famous seventeenth-century English composers like John Dowland and Henry Purcell, as well as their contemporaries in other countries. Their cooperation has lead to the foundation of the Huygens Duo.
Opera
Leonore sang the role of Sally in Samuel Barbers chamber opera A Hand of Bridge; she participated in a production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni in the Concertgebouw conducted by Vincent de Kort and directed by Lawrence Dale; she sang the role of Nancy in a non staged performance of Von Flotow’s Martha; in 2010 and 2011 Leonore sang the roles of Lapak and Innkeeper’s Wife in a Dutch production of the opera The Cunning Little Vixen by Leoš Janáček.
